Current Internship Opportunities

Tenants’ Rights Resource: Answer questions about tenants’ rights from rent regulated tenants during open call-in hours. We will provide training on how to answer questions about rent regulation, rent increases, security deposits, roommates, repairs, landlord harassment and more. Learn about rent regulation while helping us provide an essential and invaluable service for our members. Hours are flexible, but a minimum of 10 hours a week is preferred. To apply, send a cover letter and resume to Sam Stein, stein@tandn.org.

Building Outreach: A recent court decision ruled that landlords have been illegally removing apartments from rent regulation while receiving J-51 tax benefits. Knock on doors throughout New York City, letting tenants know that they may have the right to lower rent and stronger protections. Gain on the ground organizing experience and become involved with an important opportunity to bring more apartments under New York’s largest affordable housing program. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus. Must be available evenings. To apply, send a cover letter and resume to Katie Goldstein, kgoldstein@tandn.org.

Meet our Former Interns

Natania

Hello! My name is Natania Gazek and I worked as the Rent Regulation Campaign Intern during the summer before my Senior year as a Sociology major at Vassar College. I learned a ton about affordable housing in New York, and how different non-profits collaborate. I had the freedom to figure out how I could best contribute to the organization, and the staff took into consideration my skills and interests, allowing me to work on substantial projects on my own. My major project was to create a series of fact sheets about issues that tenants face. I also attended numerous coalition meetings, wrote a legislative action alert, and helped to plan a campaign. I now understand so much more about how non-profits work and how to do grassroots organizing. I'd really recommend interning at Tenants & Neighbors!

My name is Elise Blasingame and I interned with Tenants & Neighbors during the winter of my sophomore year at Cornell University. T&N actually provided me with my first internship opportunity, and I cannot say how much I still value that experience. I was able to assist other volunteers with organizing materials and workshop preparations for newly formed tenant associations. The volunteers and full time employees at T&N are some of the most passionate and well informed agents of social change I have met, and they have accomplished so much in terms of housing rights and tenant empowerment because of this. I learned so much about organizing tactics, political strategies and how to give people the power to sustain their own initiatives. I had an amazing experience and I highly recommend interning with Tenants & Neighbors.
